Itinuturing ng Pre-Trial Chamber I ng International Criminal Court (ICC) na “fit to take part in the pre-trial proceedings,” si dating Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte.
Ito ay batay sa medical assessment ng tatlong independent experts na nagsagawa ng medical examination kay Duterte.
“Having regard to the relevant legal principles, the medical assessment of the independent experts composing the Panel, and all of the relevant circumstances of the case, the Chamber was satisfied that Mr Duterte is able effectively to exercise his procedural rights and is therefore fit to take part in the pre-trial proceedings, which are thereby resumed,” ayon sa ICC Pre-Trial Chamber I.
Dahil dito ay itinakda na ang confirmation of charges hearing sa February 23.
Matatandaan na noong March 11, 2025 ay naaresto si Duterte matapos siyang dumating mula Hong Kong, kasunod ng arrest warrant na inisyu ng ICC kaugnay sa war on drugs ng kaniyang administrasyon.
Agad siyang dinala sa The Hague, Netherlands, kung saan matatagpuan ang ICC headquarters, upang harapin ang formal proceedings.
Sinubukan ng defense team ni Duterte na ipagpaliban ang hearings dahil umano sa isyu ng kalusugan ng dating Pangulo. Bilang tugon, nagtalaga ang kortet ng independent medical experts upang suriin ang kanyang kondisyon.
Noong December 2025, inilabas ng experts ang kanilang findings, at batay sa resulta, si Duterte ay medically fit to stand trial at tinanggihan ang claims ng mental impairment.
