Aabot sa 480 Pilipino sa Middle East ang ire-repatriate dahil sa tumitinding tensyon sa pagitan ng Iran, United States, at Israel, ayon sa Philippine Consulate sa Dubai nitong Biyernes.
Ayon kay Consul General Ambrosio Brian Enciso III, ang mga repatriates ay binubuo ng 36 turista at 270 migrant workers, at lilipad mula Dubai sakay ng isang chartered flight.
“The capacity of the chartered flight is 480. From our side, more or less, we have 136. From the Migrant Workers Office, there are more or less 270, because there are some who backed out. There will also be a contingent from Abu Dhabi, more or less 90,” paliwanag ni Enciso sa isang panayam.
Ayon sa Consul-General, ang mga ire-repatriate ay yaong mga nagpahayag ng kagustuhang makauwi sa Pilipinas. Sila ay lilipad mula Dubai kasama si Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Cacdac.
“It is a non-ticketed flight; we just need a manifest. The government paid the entire service — the charter service includes the plane and the bus that will take them from Dubai to Fujairah,” dagdag ni Enciso.
Aniya, iniisip ng pamahalaan na maghanda pa ng isa pang chartered flight depende sa demand.
“There are other ways; it can be in small batches. We will get them tickets depending on the need but if there is a big group, the government is open to considering that,” dagdag niya.
Ito ang unang repatriation ng mga Pilipino sa Middle East via chartered flight. Noong Miyerkules, inihayag ng DMW na 44 OFWs mula Israel at Dubai ang nakauwi sa pamamagitan ng land travel papuntang Egypt, at mula roon ay sumakay sa eroplano papuntang Oman bago makarating sa Pilipinas.
Nitong Lunes, 90 pang OFWs mula UAE ang nakauwi sa bansa.
Noong nakaraan, sinabi ni Pangulo Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. na inaaayos ng pambansang pamahalaan ang mga charter flights upang ma-repatriate ang mga Pilipino dahil sa umiigting na tensyon sa Gitnang Silangan.
